Toler elected D.S. of Southwest Oklahoma
Stanley A. Toler has been elected to the office of superintendent of the Southwest Oklahoma District. With General Superintendent Jesse C. Middendorf presiding, Toler was elected on the third ballot on June 4, 2009, to be effective in approximately 30 days. read more

Gunter presides over MAC assemblies
Nina G. Gunter, jurisdictional general superintendent for the Mexico and Central America Region, recently presided over nine district assemblies in 12 days across El Salvador and Guatemala. "These are the last international district assemblies on my docket," Gunter said. "We are grateful for the good, solid Nazarenes on the MAC Region. It has been a joy to work, worship, and fellowship with them and with Dr. and Mrs. Saenz." read more

Home call of Dr. Hugh Rae, principal emeritus, NTC Manchester
Hugh Rae, principal emeritus of Nazarene Theological College (Manchester, England), passed away on the morning of Monday, June 1, after a short illness. He was 87. (Slideshow) read more

Eastern India, southern Bangladesh ravaged by Cyclone Aila
What began with heavy rains on May 25 soon turned into a more violent storm and wreaked havoc for both eastern India and southern Bangladesh. The cyclone, now referred to as "Aila," has left nearly 200 people dead and thousands homeless. read more

Ushers and greeters needed at General Assembly
One of the great needs in helping to facilitate the 27th General Assembly and Conventions is that of ushers and greeters. Ushers and greeters will serve in welcoming fellow Nazarenes at the main entrances, collecting the offerings during the worship time, as well as distributing any materials that would be necessary. read more

A women's conference held in Accra, Ghana, in May brought together more than 100 women from the two nations of Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire. read more


Church on Asia-Pacific Region increases Easter Offering giving by 150 percent

NTC Australasia English Language School to begin in 2010
NTC Australasia is expanding its mission to include the establishment of a nationally accredited English Language School, which offers teacher training courses for English language teachers, a full range of English language courses, and an Accelerated English Language Study Tours program. read more


Cuba seminary graduates 39
On Saturday, May 30, Seminario Teologico Nazareno Cubano graduated 21 students - five from the resident course and 16 from the extension course. This week, 18 students from other provinces will graduate from the seminary, also from the extension program. (Slideshow) read more


Haiti Bible College celebrates record graduation
The Nazarene Theological Seminary of Haiti has reason to celebrate as 24 graduates received their diplomas on May 17. According to Bill Dawson, French Field strategy coordinator, this was the largest graduating class in the school's history and the ceremony included a record attendance of 1,100 people. read more


MAC Region hosts 5th Missionary Training event in Costa Rica
In May, the Mexico and Central America Region held its 5th Missionary Training event in San José, Costa Rica. Ministers from five countries covering three regions attended. read more

On Pentecost Sunday morning, May 31, Pastor Kerry Willis, vision pastor at Harrisonburg, Virginia, First Church of the Nazarene, shared a message titled "Spontaneous Baptism - Our Hope is Surprised When We are Baptized" and then surprised the congregation with an invitation to be baptized "Right here, Right now!" read more

Dorothy J. Teare passed away May 25 in Gillette, Wyoming. She was the wife of the late New Zealand and Hawaii District Superintendent Darrell B. Teare. read more

Northwest Nazarene MBA students place first in global competition
George Condie and Jeremy Jensen of the Northwest Nazarene University MBA program recently competed in the global Best-Strategy Invitational. The Invitational is an international simulation in which students run a digital camera company online, competing with the companies of other universities' teams. Condie and Jensen's business, Hubble Images, placed first in their industry. read more


SNU receives 497 volume Dr. Robert G. Lawrence Ornithology collection
The book collection of the late Dr. Robert G. "George" Lawrence - former professor of biology at Bethany Peniel College, now Southern Nazarene University, was recently donated to the SNU School of Biology. The collection was accepted by SNU earlier this year with 497 books representing several fields of the biological sciences, which Lawrence had collected across his entire career. read more

NNU's Ashley Puga wins 800-meter national championship
Already the 800-meter indoor champ, Northwest Nazarene University senior Ashley Puga captured the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field 800-meter national championship May 23. Two other Crusaders joined her on the medal stand. Puga was also the recipient of three major athletic awards. read more


Point Loma's Sam Cyr repeats as national golf champion
On Friday, May 22, Point Loma Nazarene's Sam Cyr won the individual crown at the 58th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. It was the senior's second consecutive national title. As a team, the Sea Lions placed in a tie for 12th. read more


Sea Lions finish as NAIA World Series runner-up
Playing for the school's first NAIA team national championship, the Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions fell behind 5-0 in the bottom of the first inning of the Avista NAIA World Series championship game, and although they battled back, eventually lost 11-8 to Lubbock Christian (Texas) May 29 to finish as national runner-up. read more
