Into Faith...Out Into the World

Every four years, Nazarenes in Canada and the U.S. have the opportunity to gather for a mid-quadrennial conference on mission and evangelism. This February, thousands will journey to Kansas City for Mission 2007 or M7. The theme is, "Into faith…out to the world."

As we think about this theme, it represents opportunity as well as invitation. The invitation to journey deeper into faith is important for us regardless of where we are in the world. I hope that this theme characterizes strengthening convictions concerning the following:

Faith in the centrality and authority of Scripture.

The life and story of the Church is rooted in the stories reported in Scripture. "Into faith" means faith in specifics, not just broad generalities. Our message is not conditioned by the changes of society or culture. "Into faith" means belief in the centrality of Scripture and its accompanying authority.

Faith in the Church as the Body of Christ.

We believe God's primary delivery system is the Church. "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 3:10). This is a time to reaffirm our faith in the Church. Religious sects may come and go. Judicatories and administrative systems may change.

Founded upon the rock, Christ Jesus, the Church endures and perseveres.

Amid the change and challenges of shifting philosophical boundaries and cultural expression, God is still building His Church.

Faith in the message.

Distilled to its finest essence, the heart of the gospel message is still the unconditional love of God for humankind in Jesus Christ. We continue to believe in the message of inclusivity-that the whole world matters to God. Moreover, we affirm our belief in the dynamic optimism of grace. Real transformation can and does occur through the work of the Holy Spirit in the believer. With the message of transformation comes an abiding hope that one day, the kingdoms of this world shall acknowledge the Lordship of Christ.

Faith in Jesus Christ.

"Into faith" is a declaration of our unequivocal faith, trust, and reliance upon Jesus Christ. He remains our Savior, our Sanctifier, our Sovereign, and our Sustainer. We unconditionally, without reservation, call the world to the Cross, where they can meet Jesus and discover full salvation from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin. Then, we shall be ready to move out into the world with fresh faith, to offer the greatest story ever told.
